2. What Data We Collect

We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide our service:

  • Account information: Email address, display name, and profile photo (if you choose to upload one).
  • Authentication data: Firebase Authentication tokens and session identifiers.
  • Message metadata: Sender ID, recipient ID, timestamps, message status (sent/delivered/read), and conversation identifiers. We do not store the plaintext content of your messages.
  • Encrypted message content: AES-256-GCM ciphertext and initialisation vectors. These cannot be decrypted by us.
  • Media files: Encrypted files you share within conversations, stored in Firebase Cloud Storage.
  • Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for debugging purposes.
  • Support tickets: Information you voluntarily provide when contacting our support team.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data for the following purposes under the lawful bases indicated:

  • Service delivery (contractual necessity): To create and maintain your account, deliver messages, and facilitate calls.
  • Security and integrity (legitimate interest): To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access.
  • Customer support (contractual necessity): To respond to your enquiries and resolve issues.
  • Service improvement (legitimate interest): Aggregated, anonymised analytics to improve platform performance.

4. End-to-End Encryption

All messages sent through Messaging Pro are encrypted using AES-256-GCM before leaving your device. Encryption keys are generated and stored exclusively on your device. We use RSA-OAEP (2048-bit) for secure key exchange between participants.

This means that we cannot read, access, or decrypt your messages, even if compelled by legal process. We can only provide encrypted ciphertext and metadata in response to valid legal requests.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:

  • Google Firebase: Our infrastructure provider for authentication, database, storage, and hosting. See Firebase Privacy Policy.
  • Law enforcement: Only when required by valid UK legal process, and limited to metadata and encrypted ciphertext (which we cannot decrypt).

6. Data Retention

Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Encrypted messages are retained according to the platform's message retention policy (configurable by administrators, default 365 days). Deleted messages have their encrypted content permanently redacted.

7. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Rectification: Correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data.
  • Restriction: Request that we restrict processing of your data.
  • Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
